Welcome to the Nature Conservation Foundation - Sri Lanka (NCF)

NCF is a dedicated non-governmental organization (NGO) committed to preserving the rich Biodiversity and Natural Heritage of Sri Lanka. Established Under The Voluntary Services Organization Act No. 31 Of 1980, NCF operates with its mission to protect and conserve the environment for present and future generations.

The mission of NCF is to protect and preserve the environment for present and future generations by promoting sustainable practices, advocating for conservation efforts, and empowering communities to take action towards a greener and more resilient planet.

Recent conservation projects

NCF recent conservation projects undertaken by the Nature Conservation Foundation - Sri Lanka:

Mangroves Reservation Conservation and Livelihoods Project in Puttalam and Mannar

NCF is actively involved in conserving and restoring mangrove ecosystems in Puttalam and Mannar regions while simultaneously empowering local communities through sustainable livelihood initiatives.

Biodiversity Conservation and Community Empowerment Project at Rawanaella

Through this project, NCF is working towards the conservation of biodiversity in the Rawanaella area while also empowering local communities to actively participate in conservation efforts.

Climate Change Adaptation Community Resilience Project at Lahugala-Ampara

NCF is implementing initiatives to enhance community resilience to climate change impacts in the Lahugala-Ampara region, focusing on adaptation strategies and capacity building.

Water Resources Management and Small Business Development Project at Kunchukkulam - Mannar

In collaboration with local stakeholders, NCF is involved in sustainable water resources management and fostering small business development initiatives in the Kunchukkulam area of Mannar.

Coastal Biodiversity Conservation through Livelihood Development and Diversification among Productive Poor in the Fisheries Sector in Bar Reef Marine Sanctuary

NCF is dedicated to conserving coastal biodiversity in the Bar Reef Marine Sanctuary while simultaneously supporting livelihood development and diversification among local fishing communities.



Success Stories

Puttalam Lagoon Project (2018-2019): Large-Scale Restoration and Livelihood Diversification

This project stands out for its ambitious scale and multifaceted approach. By planting a staggering 500,000 mangrove propagules, NCF effectively reversed decades of degradation and significantly increased mangrove cover within the Puttalam Lagoon.

Kalpitiya Lagoon Project (2020-present): Ongoing Restoration and Community Empowerment Diversification

Building upon the success of previous projects, the ongoing Kalpitiya Lagoon initiative aims to restore a further 250 hectares of degraded mangroves. This large-scale restoration will significantly enhance coastal resilience, protecting local communities from extreme weather events and storm surges.
